Service Women’s Action Network (SWAN)

An advocacy group dedicated to equal opportunity and a safe work environment within the military, SWAN pushes for the inclusion of female soldiers in all branches and levels of the military, improved institutional policies for the reporting and prosecution of sexual assault and harassment, and holistic healthcare and benefit services – including reproductive care and disability benefits for survivors of military sexual violence – for soldiers and veterans. SWAN’s website offers information for civilians, veterans, and veteran families, including links to mental health services and legal counsel.

Intrepid Sea, Air, & Space Museum

If you want a peek into the US space program but don’t have a trip to Florida (or to DC’s National Air and Space Museum) in the works, take a shorter jaunt over to Pier 86 to check out the Intrepid Museum’s Space Shuttle Pavilion. The exhibit includes the prototype space shuttle Enterprise as well as interactive information on the US shuttle program.
