It is my pleasure to officially announce that Bye Bye Birdie will be the inaugural production at Henry Miller’s Theatre.

We owe endless thanks to our Board member Douglas Durst, the Durst Organization, and Bank of America for entrusting Roundabout with the programming of this beautiful new theatre. With the Henry Miller’s Theatre, we will be able to support and nurture more artists each year, develop new audiences, create more employment, increase our educational outreach, and greater serve our family of subscribers.

Roundabout first occupied the Henry Miller’s Theatre in 1998, nearly 30 years after it had been abandoned as a legitimate theatre. We transformed and reopened the space for our production of Cabaret, but were forced to find an alternate home for the production (namely, Studio 54) after a construction accident at an adjacent building. Our upcoming re-occupancy of the space takes us full-circle and marks a milestone in our proud history of bringing lost theatres back to life as viable live performance venues.

The 1,055-seat house is located inside the new Bank of America Tower on 43rd Street, near Bryant Park, and it will be New York’s first LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) rated theatre, setting new standards for the environmentally sustainable design and construction of performing arts venues. It is also the first “green” theatre; it was constructed with environmentally-responsible materials and great care was taken to create the best possible indoor environment for audiences, performers, and production staff.

And I would like to express my deepest gratitude to each of you, our audience, for helping to bring Roundabout to this stage.
