The decision to revive Present Laughter on Broadway was a relatively easy one; after all, I have spent some of my most pleasurable nights in the theater in the company of the characters of Noël Coward. Present Laughter not only offers the potent wit and silky-smooth banter that define the playwright’s style, but it is filled with more than the usual affection for the people he has put on stage. An actor himself, Coward wrote this play (which some consider to be semi-autobiographical) with both teasing and love to honor the theatrical folk who had become his family through the course of his career.
